Palm Springs residents will elect two people Nov. 8 to serve on the Desert Water Agency board, which provides and manages water service to Palm Springs, part of Cathedral City and other areas of Riverside County.

The agency serves about 71,000 people, according to agency spokeswoman Katie Ruark.

Three people recently qualified for the ballot, to fill two board seats. Here’s a snapshot of who’s running:

Craig A. Ewing (incumbent): (photo not available) The 58-year-old director of planning services for the city of Palm Springs has served on the agency board for four years.

If re-elected, his top priority would be to continue to work with the board, staff and community on a “significant new water conservation program,” he wrote in an email to the Palm Springs Sun.

Ewing has lived in the Coachella Valley and worked for the city six years.

Tom Kieley III (incumbent): An insurance broker and risk management consultant, Kieley has served on the Desert Water Agency Board since 1985. The second-generation Palm Springs native has been in business in the community since 1973.

If re-elected, Kieley, 61, said in an email, “My top priority will be to continue to build upon the agency’s very successful conservation program to protect and preserve our most precious asset, a safe dependable supply of some of the finest water in the world.”

Michael P. Paduano: The 40-year-old Palm Springs Realtor also serves as executive director of the Wellness Foundation and as a partner in Goodland Capital Group.

If elected to the agency board, the 10-year Coachella Valley resident plans to be an active and contributing member who represents the ratepayers of the various communities served by the agency and “to explore ratepayers’ knowledge, attitude and behaviors around such issues as water conservation.”
